WHO WE ARE

Beloved Church
Envisioning the Dream of God

Beloved Church in Seoul, South Korea was born in Dec. 2005 by the amazing providence of God under which Senior Pastor Byun, then, pastoring in Ulsan, met a group of intercessors with unknown names who were praying in tears at Imun-dong, Seoul.

Pastor Byun devoted himself to the Word, prayer and extensive reading with his burning thirst for the real truth but it was this best seller, Christians Going to Hell that made known his name that used to be unknown after pastoring in Ulsan for over 15 years.

This was a beginning of the journey to fulfill the calling for restoration of all nations which was given to him, when he was a high school student, in a dream one night when he fell asleep after earnestly praying in tears, asking “Yet, please make me a pastor” as he was lamenting over his shortcomings, and it also served as a bridge that brought together the intercessors from Imun-dong and Pastor Byun.

Christians Going to Hell

In May 2004, when the senior pastor was writing this book, Holy Spirit told him. “This is not your book. It’s My book. This is not your work. It’s My work.”

The publisher wasn’t quite sure if this sermon book written by a pastor from a small local church would really sell. However, contrary to the publisher’s expectation, Christians Going to Hell became a best seller.

The book began flying off the shelves, along the wind sent by the Lord, for instance, with its endorsement written by Choo Thomas, the author of Heaven is So Real which was widely made known in Korea as it was translated by Pastor David Yonggi Cho.

Christians Going to Hell became the best of all the best-sellers that the publisher had ever published then and even a steady seller.

"The Imun-dong Revival"

In the meantime, at a humble basement room in Imun-dong, Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, a small group of intercessors made up of ordinary housewives was praying for many years, weeping in tears, laying down all their personal lives and times, for evangelization and prosperity of the nation, and ultimately for the kingdom of God.

Then, around in Apr. 2004, the Lord began visiting these brides of Jesus who were coming before Him, seeking His face in deep repentance. Then, one day, Pastor Ok-kyung Kim (then, a deaconess) heard the voice of the Lord saying, “This is the revival of Imun-dong. This is the start of a revival that will surpass the miracles of Pensacola and flow throughout the entire world like the Azusa Street Revival.”

and saw a vision in which a small fire that started in Imun-dong spread to all of Seoul and then, to all of Korea and then, to the entire world.

Beginning of Prophetic Intercession

After then, the Lord revealed to the intercessors in Imun-dong specific sins of the people and nation through revelations in the Word, dreams, visions, and prophecies. And He poured on them each day the spirit of repentance, having them treat the sins of this nation as their own, a world that had been spoiled by corruption, filled with greed, and engaged in the evils of idolatry and lust.

He also explained to them the true spiritual state of the Korean church where few believers were obeying the Word with true faith and countless members of the church were going to hell without salvation; many pastors weren’t leading His sheep through the narrow path, but their hearts were focused only on increasing the number of church members for their own prosperity. Through it all, the intercessors came to learn how greatly the Lord was grieving over the churches on this earth.

Kairos-union

The fact that Christians Going to Hell was written and published in 2004 when the intercessors at Imun-dong were praying in the ‘journey of glory’ was a undeniably remarkable miracle which clearly proves that the union of the senior pastor and the intercessors was in the perfect plan of God and took place in God’s precise Kairos time.

Pastor Ok-kyung Kim was greatly amazed and got all excited after reading the book as it was brought to her by one of the members of the prayer group. For not only were the teachings in the book so biblical and full of grace but also were in accordance with many voices of the Holy Spirit that she had been hearing in the place of prayer concerning the state of churches and so on. Immediately after finishing the book, she ordered many more copies to hand out to each family in the group and urged all their family members to read it. After then, the intercessors started to receive through dreams and visions that they needed to devote themselves to fulfilling God’s will for Pastor Byun.

The intercessors at Imun-dong thought that they would have to move to Ulsan to serve Pastor Byun, putting their lives in Seoul behind, but unexpectedly, the Lord told them, “Pastor Byun has to come to Seoul for the work of saving the souls of the nations as well as missions in North Korea, and Beloved Church has to be founded in Seoul for this.” It wasn’t an easy voice to accept but with an obedient heart, the intercessors attended a conference led by Pastor Byun to deliver this will of the Lord to him and they heard Pastor Byun speaking the following words at the first session of the conference.

T“This is still a secret, so I’m not sure why I’m sharing this with all of you here, but we have made a tentative decision to build Beloved Church in Seoul as well. The Lord told us the following three things through our prophetic ministers: first, to prepare for missions in North Korea, second, to establish a foothold for my ministry to spread to the world, and third, to raise a church in Seoul to train the warriors for the great revival and great harvest.”

Like this, Senior Pastor Byun and the intercessors from Imun-dong met in such a perfect kairos time and exchanged the same message that both heard from the Lord, and took a historic first step towards the planting of Beloved Church.

Planting and Growth of Beloved Church

The founding of Seoul Beloved Church went smoothly with all things under the will of God and the first dedication service was held at a new sanctuary in Bangbae-dong on Mar. 6, 2005, within less than 2 months after Pastor Byun and the intercessors from Imun-dong met. Thirsty souls that desired to have their hearts broken by hearing words of the truth flocked to Beloved Church from all directions. So, less than a year after the planting, Beloved Church moved into a new sanctuary in Seocho-dong. Two years and ten months later, the number of adult members attending exceeded about 2,000 and thus, the church moved to a building in Nonhyun-dong. Again, the number reached as many as 9,000 and Beloved Church is now in a beautiful new church building in Ogeum-dong, Seoul.

Into the Endless Revival

Today, Beloved Church is serving the souls throughout Korea and all over the world with its main site in Seoul, 35 local satellite churches and also overseas branches in other nations such as Indonesia, Japan, US (Atlanta and New York), Canada, Australia and Germany.

Beloved Church, with its full focus on the Great Commission from the Lord and seeking the face of God, is serving souls 1. with the uncompromised words of truth and the message of the pure gospel proclaimed by the senior pastor, 2. with the intercessory ministry of seeking the heart of the Lord and praying for the nation and the people of Korea as well as North Korea and the rest of the nations around the world, 3. with the trustworthy prophetic ministry and the other spiritual gift ministries performing all sorts of healing and miracles and 4. with the power evangelism by ‘Two Witness Missions Team’ that spreads the power gospel and the kingdom gospel both at home and abroad.

Beloved Church where God’s dream has been sown will keep on advancing into the journey of the revival that will never end until the day of the Lord’s return.
